Billericay amended for their last dismal home performance and the 0-5 drubbing they received when they last played Braintree, with a solid performance to gain a well deserved point. Billericay started brightly and Nick Morgan had to be on his toes in the Braintree goal as he was forced into an early save from a Nathan Elder shot. After this the game remained a tight and battling affair. Billericay fans lost count at the number of flailing elbows from Braintree players that went unpunished. Matt Joseph forced Ricky Millard to save late in the second half. Seconds before the first half ended Braintree took the lead. Ex-Hendon striker Eugene Ofori got on the end of a long ball and smashed the ball home in style past a helpless Ricky Millard.
The dodgy refereeing continued in the second half when the referee awarded Braintree a penalty after Robin Trott had barely touched the Braintree forward. How the referee gave this and none of the many earlier fouls by Braintree players is beyond belief. Justice was done for Billericay as Ricky Millard saved brilliantly from Alex Revell's spot kick. Billericay dominated the second half and got the deserved equaliser just before the end. A cleared cross fell to Matt Game who smashed it home from 20 yards for his 2nd goal of the season. Braintree were finally reduced to 10 men when Eugene Ofori got a second yellow card, perhaps a better referee may have reduced Braintree to less players. Billericay will feel their domination deserved 3 points, but it was still a good result. |
