Billericay progressed to the quarter finals of the league cup with a less than convincing win against their lower league opponents. Billericay opted to rest a few players such as Robin Trott and Danny Hockton and gave a chance to players such as Ross Wareham and Jamie Dormer who are returning from injury. Billericay could have been in front early on when Tarkan Mustafa ran through the Tooting defence only to shoot at the keeper when he should have done better. A good turn and shot from Tom Poole forced another save from the Tooting goalkeeper. Billericay looked sloppy at the back for most of the game without Robin Trott and static defending allowed Tooting through to take the lead.
A scrappy game unsurprsingly meant a scrappy goal, which Billericay got through Pat Sappleton heading in at knee height from a Dave Collins free kick. Billericay were now improving in the second half and took the lead when Nathan Elder headed a Collins free kick onto the bar and Dave McSweeney scrambled home the rebound. Nathan Elder secured the win as he scored after excellent work from Danny Hockton down the right. A win is a win, but the performance level was a lot lower than that against Hampton & Richmond. Billericay have been drawn away to either Harrow Borough or Worthing in the Westview League Cup Quarter Finals and will play this match on Tuesday 21st February 2006. |
